And We’re Off

On March 9th, 2013 the winner of the 2012 Breeder’s Cup Classic, Fort Larned, was loaded into the gate as the solid 4-5 favorite in the Gulfstream Park Handicap.  He was facing only 5 competitors, and none had ever won a Grade 1 Stakes race.  Fort Larned had won two in the past year, and more than $3.6 million dollars in earnings.  The closest competitor had won $384,000 in 2012, while the other four horses had all won less than $100k.

If he breaks “cleanly,” Fort Larned is the likely winner of this race. IF he breaks cleanly …

Getting Out Of The Gate “cleanly” or “evenly” is the goal of every jockey in a horse race.  The aim is to give their horse the best chance to win the race by putting them in a good position early.  That is the same goal of this website; to put you in the best position to understand and enjoy this very exciting game.  And, although I can’t guarantee winning results at the race track if you follow my Blog, I can assure you the following:

  1. You will have a better understanding of the game and a fighting chance of winning more than losing at the race track.
  2. You will find this experience to be much different than reading a text book on handicapping; as my goal is to entertain as well as educate you.
  3. You will have the opportunity to contribute and to truly make this a community learning experience.
  4. You will have more fun when you visit a racetrack.
  5. You will want to go back for more.

P.S. Neither Fort Larned or the Jockey were injured in this race.

  1. Neal,
Congratulations and great time to start this website as we get closer to the upcoming racing season. I went last month to Oaklawn race track in Hot Springs, Arkansas with my mom and sister. We had a great time betting on the horses – we picked our horses based on their name! We actually won a few races and in the end I came out $7.60 ahead! I look forward to upcoming blogs.
